Jan Sluijsmans Music | 2021
Currently in the process of creating the artwork for the debut album of Jan Sluijsmans, musician and composer of experimental, drone, soudscape, jazz noir & neo-classical music. Jan & I go a long way back, we met when I was 18, him having his recording studio Tristone at the same squad-house I was living in back then. I just started my study in photography and I think Jan gave me my first commissioned work. Together with Alain Maessen from Brutesque we created this head-logo. I have re-scanned and re-edited the original negative in 2021 and can be seen below.

Stefan put to words that which we tried to aim for: to create some form of immersion where your mind and thoughts are able to roam freely, without telling it where to go. To take a step back, take a deep breath and just be in the moment.
That's exactly what Jan is looking for in his music, and I, as a photographer, am looking for in my images and the process I use to make them. It is also exactly what I'm looking for when listening to music, and what attracts me to the music of Jan and vice versa.
It's why he reached out to me for a collaboration and I happily said yes. He then reached out to Mateusz to let him roam around freely using his contra bass to do what he felt like doing. Jan presented me the final piece, a musical immersion where my mind was able to roam freely and I was able to make that which came to mind and what I felt like doing. This is the result.

The Insidious Effect Seq III will be premiering at the Dutch Mountain Film Festival.
We are proud to announce that our short film “The Insidious Effect Seq III” will be premiering at the Dutch Mountain Film Festival during 2 - 6 november. The movie will be running between 9:30 and 17:00 at the Visit South Limburg Experience.
This short film is a special collaboration between me, composer Jan Sluijsmans (NL) and double bass player Mateusz Malcharek (PL) and is the first in a series of 4.

The video is shot in the darkroom while developing the album cover on photographic paper, using the Leica Monochrom M246.
