WET PLATE COLLODION
Portrait Studio

30 seconds of your life, captured in a single image.

A wet plate collodion portrait in studio requires a fairly long exposure time. This duration of exposure makes the perception of time, for the person before as well as behind the camera, much more intense. It makes it seem as if you’re able to capture a part of the inner self of the one portrayed. A part that can’t be seen when the exposure is done in a split of a second.

Interested in experiencing this way of photography and ending up with a unique wet plate portrait taken of you or someone you like? Feel free to contact me to discuss the options and / or make an appointment.

This photographic process dates from 1851 and the procedure is quite different from a contemporary digital image. A portrait session will take at least 1,5 hours. I will make more than one plate to see which works best in the end. The entire process, from preparing the plate to developing, can be witnessed up close, which makes it all the more interesting and makes you a genuine part of the final result.

After the session is done it will take about a week to finish the plate of your choosing (to properly varnish and dry). The end result is a unique portrait of you on black glass which will last for ages. You can pick it up afterwards or I will securely bring or ship it to you.

If you have other requests than the ones mentioned below, don’t hesitate to contact me. There’s little that can’t be done! I can shoot on location when desired, for example. Different rates will be applicable. I also do commercial shoots; I’ve worked on several occasions with Silvercreek, a clothing brand.
